Hi, welcome to the WVU Mining Engineering web page. Ours is one of the 15 mining engineering programs in the United States. We offer both undergraduate (BS) and graduate (MS and PhD) programs. As the oldest mining engineering program in the United States (1868), it also has been accredited by ABET and its predecessors since accreditation began in 1936.
Our alumni have been key players in the U.S. coal industry, as evidenced by individuals holding various top management positions in all major coal companies. We are also very active in mining research and recognized world wide, particularly in the areas of ground control/rock mechanics, longwall mining, surface subsidence, and mine health and safety. Since we are located in the center of the world's largest and richest coal field, our program is applications oriented and enjoys strong
industrial support.
