Mining Engieering Students participate in various activities to enjoy their lives and enrich their social skills as they pursue academic learning at WVU. These activities can be the Annual SME Meeting, the Annual Picnic with SPE Student Chapter, white water rafting with MinE faculty, etc. Mining Engineering students lives can be rich and active. Various planned social events such as participating in the following annual activites:

• West Virginia Coal Mining Institute (WVCMI) and SME Central Appalachian Section (SMECAS) Joint Annual Meeting at Greenbreir, White Sulphur Spring, WV in October.
• Pittsburgh Coal Mining Institute of America(PCMIA)and SME Pittsburgh Section Joint Annual Meeting at South Pointe, PA in October.
• Invited guest speakers at the regular meetings of the SME Student Chapter--WVU Mining Engineering.
• Planned field trip to surface mining operation, underground mining operation, and coal preparation plant and surface material handling facilities operation.
• Annual SME Meeting Denver, CO, Salt Lake City, UT, Pheniex, AZ, Las Vegas, NV., St. Louis, MO., etc., in February-March.
• Mine field trips prior to or after Annual SME Meeting, February-March.
• West Virginia Coal Mining Institute (WVCMI) and WV Coal Association and Reclamation Annual Meeting, Glade Springs  Resort, Daniel, or Pipestem Resort, WV in April.
• Charleston Coal Mning Institue and Coal Association Joint Meeting and mine trip.
•  SME and SPE Student Chapters' joint picnic at Krepps Park, Morgantown, WV in April.
• Picnic at Dr. A. W. Khair's house, Morgantow, WV in Spring.
•  White water rafting at Cheat River, Albright, WV in May.

are available for the Mining Engineering students to meet with the president, CEO, COO, professional Mining Engineers, etc., from mining and mineral industries, goverment agencies, academics, etc.

Joint Picnic of SME and SPE Student Chapters is held at Suncrest Krepps Park Pavillion, Morgantown, WV every year. The students, faculty, staff and their friends and families have a good time on Saturday afternoon.
